Medical Laboratory Scientist II, Evenings Microbiology
Job Requirements
Full-time Evening shift position, 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Overview
Under general supervision, conducts analyses on a variety of sample types. Maintains accurate records and exercises independent judgment to produce reliable test results. Ensures quality, efficiency, and safety in all laboratory operations. Functions as a fully engaged and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.
Key Responsibilities
Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing independently using both manual and automated methods. Adheres to and actively participates in compliance with all relevant regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses any issues as required.
Identifies and resolves analytical problems autonomously, troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, and implements corrective actions when evaluating testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity; seeks guidance when necessary.
Reviews and documents quality control measures independently, determining the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument performance by applying QA/QC principles on a daily basis.
Addresses clinical and customer concerns promptly and confidentially, resolving issues with professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
Contributes to the development and revision of laboratory procedures and assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate.
Troubleshoots and resolves operational problems independently, documenting all corrective actions taken.
Participates in and may lead mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to the department.
Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with the job description.
Work Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences required or; an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or completion of Military Laboratory Technology with a minimum of three years of experience.
Experience: No experience required with a Bachelor's degree, or three years of experience in a clinical laboratory with an Associate's degree or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program required.
Licensure/Certifications: ASCP or equivalent preferred.
