TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Respiratory Diseases Branch (RDB), Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide support for the RDB.

SCOPE OF WORK

Seeking a candidate for a Microbiologist/Bioinformatician position to support activities related to a global sequencing project that aims to continue global genomic surveillance for Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). The incumbent will perform data compilation and cleaning, laboratory testing support, and data analyses.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists project investigators to liaise with global project partners.
  2. Compiles and maintains laboratory metadata files for the project.
  3. Conducts genomic analyses and supports manuscript preparation for publication.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned related to the project.



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in biology, molecular biology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a technical or program area that is related to the area of employment.



Required:

  • Strong skills, including experience in bacteriology, molecular biology and genomic analyses.
  • Strong technical skills, including word processing, spreadsheet development and management.
  • Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills with ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office Suite tools.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to quickly grasp scientific and technical information.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations.
  • Flexibility and sensitivity working with colleagues, stakeholders and international partners.



Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
