About the Job
The Plant Chemist ensures accurate lab testing, quality control, and reporting by managing laboratory operations, analyzing production samples, and supporting site quality initiatives.
- Perform routine analysis of production and customer samples to ensure quality standards
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., XRF, LECO, furnaces)
- Manage laboratory inventory and ensure adequate stocking of materials
- Record and analyze data in LIMS and communicate results to operations leadership
- Generate Certificates of Analysis for outbound shipments
- Monitor quality trends and support QC/QA program development
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of Lab Technicians
- Maintain a safe, organized laboratory environment and support compliance efforts
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience
- Knowledge of laboratory analytical procedures and data reporting
- Basic understanding of statistics and quality control methods
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to be on call for off-shift or weekend support as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with XRF and other industrial lab instrumentation
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and control charts
- Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a lab environment
- Strong troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills
