The Aitbekova research group at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher with expertise in steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy of liquid and powder samples and experience in developing methods and instrumentation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Designing and building a custom fluorimeter
  • Developing methods for near-IR detection and quantification
  • Measuring absorption and emission of powder samples
  • Developing data collection and analysis methods
  • Performing gas-phase catalytic reactions with gas- and liquid-product analysis
  • Collaborating with graduate students
  • Contributing to manuscript and proposal writing

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field with a focus on spectroscopy, photophysics, or photochemistry
  • Experience building optical setups
  • Experience in performing steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy measurements
  • Proficiency with Python or Matlab
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
