The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the fate andtransport of microplastics throughout water treatment processes with fourspecific tasks:
Detail the occurrence (microplastic quantity and type) and partitioning (between water and sludge) of microplastics for each water treatment process by on-site sampling in one water treatment plant.
Uncover the mechanisms controlling the removal of microplastics in each water treatment process by using the on-site measurements and possibly numerical models.
Synthesize approaches to optimize the removal efficiency of microplastics in the plant with data and consultation with the plant staff.
Analyze and summarize research data and results and generate research reports and journal manuscripts.
Assist in project management, laboratory management, and student mentoring.
