Proton Radiation Physicist

Scope of Position
The clinical physicist in Radiation Oncology is responsible for specification and acquisition of all radiation generating equipment, calibration of the treatment machines and acquisition and maintenance of all dosimetry and health-physics equipment. Reviews OSU radiation treatment charts and instructs personnel in principles and regulations related to radiation therapy physics, dosimetry and radiation protection.

Position Summary
Under indirect supervision, provides professional medical physics services at the Department of Radiation Oncology (or its outreach/affiliates) of the Medical Center. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists, and participates in development and execution of equipment monitoring, calibration, and safety surveys. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitor patients; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety; perform clinical research as required.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology. 2+ years of post residency experience in Therapy Medical Physics

Ongoing: Meets standards and competencies of the job as assigned and required. Maintains board certification by the American Board of Radiology.

This position is for supporting the Proton Therapy operations and previous experience with Proton Radiotherapy is very desirable.
