DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role provides expert consultation on complex toxicological and environmental health issues that affect Pennsylvanians. Working within the Bureau of Epidemiology's Division of Environmental Health, you will guide evidence-based decisions during routine operations and emergencies. As a Public Health Toxicologist, you will perform the following duties:
- Toxicology Evaluation: Analyze chemical exposure data and interpret toxicological information to ensure accurate and timely guidance for the public and other stakeholders
- Data Guidance: Support division staff in collecting and analyzing environmental exposure and health outcome data and disseminate findings to protect public health
- Policy Development: Develop policies and procedures for toxic environmental emergencies and assist with follow-up epidemiological investigations to mitigate adverse health effects
- Technical Consultation: Serve as a subject-matter consultant to a variety of programs, as well as educate a variety of audiences on environmental health issues
- Healthcare Collaboration: Advise healthcare practitioners on medical precautions and clinical recommendations during toxic incidents and on the effects of chemical and industrial hazards
- Interagency Liaison: Coordinate with state and federal agencies to identify toxicological hazards and implement emergency plans and procedures to protect public health

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of post-doctoral experience in the field of toxicology or pharmacology, which includes two years of consultative experience in toxicology; and a doctoral degree in toxicology or a closely related field
Special Requirements:
- This position requires board certification in general toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology or an equivalent international certifying body within eighteen months of hire.
