General Description
The Jr. Quality Control Chemist is responsible for performing chemical and physical analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods to ensure compliance with established specifications. This role supports manufacturing operations by identifying variations, investigating out-of-specification (OOS) results, and maintaining laboratory standards, safety, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform chemical and physical analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products at various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure adherence to established specifications.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation and execute validated analytical test methods; troubleshoot and resolve instrument-related issues as needed.
- Maintain appropriate laboratory standards, including proper storage of retained samples and upkeep of the sample retention area.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained and calibrated; verify adequate inventory of supplies to support daily lab operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment while ensuring full compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Accurately maintain all laboratory records, logbooks, and electronic documentation in an organized and compliant manner.
- Initiate and support Out-of-Specification (OOS) investigations and provide analytical support for consumer complaint investigations as required.
- Communicate and interface with chemical vendors to troubleshoot discrepancies or resolve differences in analytical results.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work split shifts, weekends, and overtime as business needs require.
- Collaborate with management to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and suggest process enhancements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the cosmetic industry or a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong English communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including basic arithmetic.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook); preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work alternative schedules as required to meet job responsibilities.
- Consistent and reliable attendance record.
