Quality Assurance (QA) Chemist
DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The QA Chemist is responsible for performing laboratory testing, analysis, and quality control activities to ensure raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products meet established specifications and regulatory standards. This role supports manufacturing operations by providing accurate analytical data, maintaining compliance with quality systems, and ensuring product integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform chemical and physical testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products according to established methods and specifications.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis using laboratory instrumentation (e.g., ICP-OES Spectroscopy, Instron Universal (Tensile/Elongation), Perthometer/Profilometers, titration systems, balances, pH meters).
- Interpret and document analytical results accurately and in compliance with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support manufacturing operations by testing in-process samples and providing timely release decisions.
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend (OOT) results and assist with root cause analysis.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Prepare reagents, standards, and solutions as required for testing.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, safety, and company quality procedures.
- Participate in method validation, verification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in accordance with data integrity standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related scientific field.
- 3+ years of laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (ICP-OES Spectroscopy, Instron Universal (Tensile/Elongation), Perthometer/Profilometers, etc.).
- Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, data analysis, charting)
- Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for reporting and documentation
- Statistical software (preferred): Minitab, JMP, or similar tools for trend analysis and quality statistics
- Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, chemical analysis, and quality systems.
- Familiarity with ISO standards or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Proficient in data analysis and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information, test results, and quality issues to cross-functional teams including production, engineering, and management.
- Ability to manage multiple tests, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Work Environment
- Laboratory and the manufacturing floor
- Will require standing for extended periods and collection/handling chemical samples using proper PPE.
- Work hours: 12 Hour Shift including weekends and nights
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds if applicable.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a chemistry background
- Must have a solid work history in Quality Assurance
- ISO audit experience
- Detail oriented, analytically minded with effective organization skills
- College degree in chemistry preferred
