UT MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. Within the Sarcoma Medical Oncology department, faculty and staff are engaged in clinical and translational research focused on improving outcomes for patients with localized and metastatic sarcoma. The department's multidisciplinary team includes medical oncologists, physician-scientists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and research nurses who provide advanced therapies, clinical trial opportunities, and comprehensive patient-centered care.
The Senior Research Nurse is a key contributor to the continued growth of the Sarcoma Clinical Research Program. The Senior Research Nurse manages complex oncology clinical trials, supports patient participation in research, and ensures regulatory compliance and operational excellence. The Senior Research Nurse collaborates across disciplines to advance innovative cancer treatments while maintaining a strong commitment to patient safety, research integrity, and quality outcomes.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred, a current Texas RN license, and at least three years of oncology clinical research experience. Experience managing Phase I-III clinical trials, informed consent processes, adverse event reporting, and regulatory documentation is highly valued. The successful candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, ICH guidelines, and protocol compliance, along with excellent clinical assessment, communication, organizational, and leadership skills. The ability to manage multiple studies independently in a fast-paced environment while mentoring staff and supporting high-quality patient-centered research is essential for success in this role.
The salary range for this position is Minimum $89,000/annually - Midpoint $111,000/annually - Maximum $133,000/annually
The typical work schedule is days, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Responsibilities
Clinical Research Protocol Management
Manage research protocols in collaboration with principal investigators and study sponsors
Assess patient eligibility through interviews and medical record reviews in inpatient and outpatient settings
Coordinate, evaluate, and monitor patient participation throughout clinical trials
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support protocol execution and patient care
Maintain protocol-required documentation within medical records and recruitment logs
Develop and implement patient recruitment strategies
Assist with protocol development, budget planning, and study design
Serve as a liaison between sponsor institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and research teams
Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting
Collect, evaluate, and analyze clinical research data in collaboration with principal investigators
Assess treatment responses, toxicities, and adverse drug reactions
Report findings to principal investigators, Institutional Review Boards, and study sponsors
Prepare protocol summary reports and assist with protocol analysis
Utilize statistical and data management software to support research activities
Design tools that facilitate data collection and analysis
Create user-generated reports and assist with statistical analysis
Develop and maintain research databases while meeting project deadlines
Patient Care & Clinical Trial Support
Perform protocol-specific clinical tasks as required by assigned studies
Educate patients and families regarding treatment management, evaluation, and follow-up during clinical trials
Administer investigational medications following approved nursing procedures and guidelines when required
Collect, label, and process protocol-specific laboratory specimens according to protocol requirements
Order protocol-related tests, consults, and procedures
Obtain pathology slides and tissue blocks as necessary for research protocols
Support safe, effective, and patient-centered participation in clinical trials
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Maintain error-free, compliant, and comprehensive protocol management practices
Independently identify and report issues consistent with institutional policies, Code of Federal Regulations, and ICH-GCP guideline
Integrate regulatory policies and procedures into all protocol management activities
Support cross-service research activities as appropriate
Ensure audits consistently demonstrate protocol accuracy, compliance, and data integrity
Develop and conduct random quality reviews of departmental research processes
Support FDA readiness and departmental operational excellence initiatives
Education, Leadership & Professional Development
Educate professional and ancillary staff regarding research protocols through presentations and written guidance
Provide accurate protocol information to multidisciplinary teams, consumers, and professional organizations
Maintain current oncology and data management knowledge through professional development activities
Present clinical trial findings through publications and formal presentations
Develop and evaluate educational materials
Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for staff members
Perform supervisory functions as necessary
Advocate for the clinical research process and associated research roles
EDUCATION
- Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing and Master's Degree Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: Two years Registered nurse experience.
- Preferred: Three years of oncology clinical research experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Required: RN - Registered Nurse State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN).
- Required: BLS - Basic Life Support or
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Preferred: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area.
- Preferred: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area.
