Toxicologist and Human Health Risk Assessor

This position is in the Air and Climate Epidemiology Section (ACES) within the Community and Environmental Epidemiology Research Branch (CEERB) of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). ACES provides technical support for the evaluation of the health effects of criteria air pollutants and temperature on human health and the analysis of health risks from oil and gas operations. ACES also provides assistance to other programs in OEHHA, the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), and other California government entities.

This position supports OEHHA's work in collaboration with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to identify hazards and characterize potential risks in California communities from ongoing oil and gas production activities and from unanticipated events such as the natural gas leak at Aliso Canyon. The Toxicologist will be focusing on health risks from chemicals associated with oil and gas production, conducting assessments of nearby communities based on air monitoring data collected by CARB as well other relevant information.

Working Conditions

OEHHA has a hybrid work environment that includes work in an office setting in a high-rise building and telework at home. OEHHA's offices are located in downtown high-rise office buildings. The air-conditioned accommodation consists of open areas furnished with cubicles, not all of which have direct natural illumination. May be required to travel to other locations for business related needs as necessary. Available to travel statewide, and occasionally out of State.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need.
