Mission of the role:
Build and lead a medical affairs team to create a best-in-class launch of our portfolio of products in transplantation with the goal of transformational patient outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Designing the strategic and tactical plans necessary to support successful launch of our portfolio of products.
- Achieve the clinical, scientific and value-oriented differentiation required to compete along with the decision-making continuum for key marketed products through company sponsored research and Investigator Initiated Studies and the development of publication/communication strategies.
- Effectively communicate strategic and tactical objectives to the executive leadership team, a broad matrix team, media, and investors that will not have a scientific background.
- Build and lead the Medical Affairs team with a focus to evolve talent, teams and culture. Build a culture of collaboration and candor - by demonstrating leadership behaviors and working collectively across the organization.
- Preparedness of several leading product launches over the next 2-3 years in current and new diagnostic and therapeutic areas and in new business models.
- Development of an evolved field and operating model to deliver on patient, physician, payer, health system and practice goals.
- Champion and contribute to key scientific and research objectives to align strategies and enhance stakeholder engagement, education, communication, and insight gathering.
- Create and maintain advocacy and partnership with KOL and other external parties inclusive of medical societies creating a presence in the field showcasing an environment of customer focus and centricity.
- Shape clinical development of product lifecycle and additional new products through clinical utility insights.
- Lead data generation and communication activities through value-oriented studies. Accountable for execution of approved clinical trials, including meeting all budget and milestones.
- Build a US based MSL team and a medical call center to handle reactive and proactive inquiries.
- Lead field-based MSL team to ensure high level of team-effectiveness; build talent with high level competencies and skills to enable a highly effective and integrated data generation and communication process.
- Execute complex clinical development programs to explore opportunities across our portfolio.
- Drives execution of all Global Medical Affairs activities as a cross functional member of including giving medical inputs to TPP (Target Product Profile) and sponsored clinical trials in partnership with assigned Clinical Leader, and regional/country medical associates.
- Accountable for Review of Investigator - Initiated Study (and Local/Regional Medical Affairs trials for assigned product(s) for the Franchise and for the monitoring of timeline and budget of IIS.
- Provides medical input on overall publication strategy and is a key member of publication planning team.
- Responsible for interactions with key opinion leaders regarding clinical claims for products as well as research opportunities including traveling to meet those customers in their centers.
- Deliver lectures to national and community health care providers on our products and their clinical use cases virtually, at congresses and directly at customer clinical centers.
- Provide medical expertise as it relates to diligence projects exploring licensing/acquisition opportunities.
- Attend key medical/scientific meetings to represent iMDx and to gather competitive and educational information.
- Support commercial teams for Ad Boards, Speaker Training and External Payor Reviews as needed.
- Answer medical questions from Customer Service as needed. Long term plan is to build out a medical call center.
What it takes to do this job:
- MD Degree required.
- Excellent understanding of the post-transplant diagnostics field.
- Expertise and comprehension of how reimbursement impacts scientific and medical decision-making.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience with combined clinical practice, R&D, and Medical Affairs/Clinical Development experience required.
- Experience leading organizational design, planning and change efforts.
- Experience leading, coaching, and motivating talent and teams at scale across a matrix.
- Experience engaging and partnering with KOLs and important external stakeholders.
- Track record of leading Medical Science Liaisons and other field-based medical teams.
- Experience with new product launches and launch excellence processes.
- Mastery of leading global clinical development programs.
- Ability to communicate as medical spokesperson for senior level audiences and media.
- Strong ethical and compliant leadership.
- Flexibility to adapt to continuing changing organizational and real-time market dynamics
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex messages to all levels of the organization.
- Strong public speaking ability and facilitation required.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with medical messaging.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
