GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Public Health Division, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program, and the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology program are seeking an enthusiastic, data-minded individual to join our team. We strive to improve the health and well-being of Wyoming families and communities. This position will be responsible for managing and analyzing data for both the WIC and MCH Epidemiology programs and providing concrete tools to monitor program and project effectiveness, conduct long and short-range planning, and inform programmatic priorities and strategies. This position will compile data, perform statistical analyses, establish and maintain data management processes and procedures, perform quality assurance, recommend data management and analysis changes where needed, monitor database validity, and create data visualizations. This is a full-time at-will contract employee (AWEC) position with limited benefits. This position does not have supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. This position reports to the MCH Epidemiology program manager, in coordination with the MCH Unit Manager and the WIC Unit Manager.

  • Compiles, analyzes, and edits epidemiological and programmatic data to ensure data conforms to requirements.
  • Monitors datasets for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, and cleans data as needed.
  • Conducts surveys, including obtaining necessary IRB reviews/approvals as might be needed.
  • Enters and verifies data for program requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation and distribution of epidemiological and programmatic information for public use.
  • Creates data visualizations, including dashboards, for public and programmatic use
  • Generates epidemiological and programmatic reports using established formats to disseminate information.
  • Identifies priorities and performance measures and prepares data for dissemination to policymakers and funders.
  • Analyzes data to provide the programs with concrete tools to monitor program and project effectiveness, to conduct long and short-range planning, policy review, and program management. This includes supporting WIC vendor program integrity/fraud prevention and any MCH program/grants requiring this task.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data collected by WIC and MCH programs as needed.
  • Fulfills data requests and interprets data for program staff and internal and external partners.
  • Supports programs with using data to drive programmatic decision-making.
  • Supports programs with data visualization, trend identification, and communication tool development.
  • Aggregates data and performance measures for federal reporting as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.



Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree in epidemiology or a related field and experience in data analysis, statistics, and program evaluation. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with Tableau for data visualization and R for data management and analysis.
KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of epidemiology, including study design and evaluation methods.
  • Knowledge of theory, practice, and application of epidemiology methodologies.
  • Knowledge of methods to prepare epidemiological reports.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical compilation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of how to build and maintain partnerships among internal staff and programs.
  • Ability to create, implement, and adjust workflow strategies to ensure effective implementation of activities.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Skilled in technical writing as applied to various media, including the preparation of reports, promotional, educational, and informational materials to a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated competence in efficient organization, management of multiple responsibilities in a time-sensitive environment, and close attention to detail.
