Job Responsibilities
This employee will serve as a project biologist and will be responsible for the management of finfish related activities for the marine stock enhancement program including applied fisheries research activities. The employee will be expected to maintain recirculating aquaculture systems, assist with pond culture to produce fish for the stock enhancement program, maintain intensive zooplankton cultures, assist with replicated experiments to evaluate spawning capabilities, environmental tolerances, physiological capabilities, and nutrition experiments and keep detailed and accurate data logs. The employee should have experience in animal husbandry, recirculating system operation and maintenance, and general fish health and handling techniques.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or other related technical area.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with and/or knowledge of tissue collection for genetic analyses and histological preparation and processing of biological samples is preferred. Skills associated with plumbing using PVC are preferred. A bachelor's degree in a science concentration is preferred. Familiarity with towing trailers and handling small boats in water. In addition, applicants should be able to swim, lift heavy objects and have basic familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Knowledge of marine and/or freshwater fishes of the southeastern US and the capability to work independently.
