NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, technical, and operational support to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in managing a national level programs? budget, from writing budget narratives to execution of funds. OR MA/MS Degree in General Education

  • Must be proficient and managing forest resources and evaluation of wildlife habitats as it relates to endangered species.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel

Duties:

Develop, oversee, and evaluate longleaf pine understory vegetation restoration activities associated with a Burned Area Restoration project. Monitor contractors performing management actions. Evaluate wildlife habitat conditions as projects continue. Survey and evaluate forest stand conditions and the current activity of the red-cockaded woodpecker.

Other:

  • IT security training to access federal systems.
  • Required Certifications: Defensive Driving, Chainsaw certified, Motorboat Operators Certification Course
  • Government Vehicle Training: Training via government computer.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Basic shop safety. Station will provide training via job hazard analysis and station Safety Plans.
  • Required Safety Gear: Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, personal floatation devices, and boots.
  • Safety Gear Use: While working in the field
  • Physical requirements: Work will be conducted in hot, humid conditions. Must be able to lift 40 lbs., work in environment with biting insects, and work in uneven terrain. Work could be conducted in outdoor setting for 8 hour stretches away from modern conveniences.
